Microsoft and Opera are in line: Chrome is the most power-hungry browser – Spider’s Web

It is no secret that the web browser has a huge impact on the running time on a single charge. But which of them has the slightest appetite for energy? Microsoft decided to check it out.

The company from Redmond a few days ago conducted a test that was supposed to help in obtaining the final answer to this question. For this purpose, launched four identical computers running Windows 10. Each of them had installed a different web browser, which is running two identical tests. The first one included the typical activity on websites and other streaming video in HD.

The result was not surprising. One browser stands out from the rest.

Briefly, 4 hours and 20 minutes, withstood the computer running Google Chrome. Firefox gives 5 hours and 9 minutes of work, and the computer with the Opera withstood six hours and 19 minutes. A definite winner of the overall competition was Microsoft Edge. PC, which was used this browser, turned off after 7 hours and 22 minutes. This means that people using Microsoft Edge can enjoy 70 percent. longer working hours than those using Google Chrome. The difference is overwhelming, is not it?

These tests confirmed the research of Microsoft, which has proven energy efficiency of PCs using different browsers. Again, Chrome consumes about 720 mW of energy, and Microsoft Edge and Firefox less than 500 mW. And this could be an end to this text, write a few paragraphs about the fact that Chrome is not a browser, but Internet operating system and accordingly saves energy on Chromebooks, which does not have to interact with another, additional OS-I.

Many Internet users, however, did not believe in the results. According to many of the most energy-efficient Internet browser Opera, equipped with a power saving mode.

This is why Opera Software decided to conduct his own test.

Initially, the company wanted to repeat the test with Microsoft, but did not He knew his full methodology. Therefore it has done its similar tests based on browsing popular sites. It also released to all interested users.

It is clear from this that the least efficient browser is Chrome. A computer equipped with it lasted two hours and 54 minutes. The gulf Microsoft Edge is not here, however, as big as suggested by the company from Redmond. PC Browser Microsoft endured 3 hours and 12 minutes. On the other hand, the same machine with the Opera browser, which is equipped with energy-saving features and ad blocking, worked until 3 hours and 55 minutes.

So who is right? It is difficult to assess, but the more I trust the Opera.

Firstly, because the users themselves are reporting with great effect saving features. The second reason for my confidence is that Opera accurately explains his motivation and test procedure. If anyone happened to have identical computer, can easily repeat it. In turn, other people can see if acquired by Opera Software also check the results with them. Microsoft did not give us that opportunity.

Regardless, however, that the results seem to be more reliable, one thing we can together say: if you want your computer to run a long time without recharging, it is better not to install the Chrome. Better would any other browser.
