The track after the collision appeared in one of the worst possible places, or on one of the glass dome, which is designed to observe and take pictures.

the European Space Agency (ESA) built the dome in 2010. It enables better monitoring of the operations performed using automatic arms. It is also used to observe the cosmos.

panes are made of suitably resistant glass. But cosmic shrapnel that hit one of the windows, caused considerable damage. Splinter the glass is about 7 millimeters in diameter. ESA estimates that the size of the object that hit the ISS does not exceed … a few thousandths of a millimeter.

Space junk can be extremely dangerous to the ISS. It is estimated that a splinter the size of one centimeter could have destroyed one of the instruments outside the station. In contrast, the object about the size of 10 centimeters would lead to disaster.
