Two astronauts from the crew of the International Space Station (ISS) on Friday spent eight hours in repairing the space station cooling system – announced the US space agency NASA. Repair successful.

The system has been closed since 2012. because of leakage causing the leakage of ammonia acting as a coolant. Since that time the station was cooled system backup. Undertaken several attempts to remove a failure does not bring results.

It was only in May 2013. Predecessors of the current station crew installed a new pump that ammonia, which solved the problem.

On Friday, astronauts Scott Kelly and Kjell Lindgren filled with ammonia cooling system main station and launched it. They shut while backup system. It was one of the longest stays in open space astronauts from the ISS.

spokesman for NASA’s Dan Huot said that there are already planned for the current year further “spacewalks”.

In January next year will join astronauts to install new nodes mooring adapted to absorb new spacecraft being developed by the company Boeing and the company Space Exploration Technologies. The new vessels are, among others, take commercial flights into space.
