Today, October 19 (9:35)

14 October 2015, Cassini made a close to one of the most interesting objects Solar System – Enceladus, Saturn’s moon. Close-up took place at the 1839 km distance. NASA has already received the first pictures of the surface taken during it. Further data will be flowing in the coming days.

Research scientists from MIT suggests that refuel on the moon may be a key element of the manned mission to Mars – we read on the pages of the site PhysOrg. Not only that, to colonize the planet will be required cosmic whole network of supply points. Read more

The Cassini flew over the north pole of Enceladus. Judging by the pictures from Voyager, expected to see a heavily cratered surface. However, the first image shows the area is very diverse. And there are numerous craters and cracks grid ice on the moon’s surface.
Next close to Enceladus will be the 28th of October and it will be even more special. Cassini will approach for a distance of only 49 kilometers from the surface of the south pole of the moon. Scientists want in this way to investigate the matter floating on the surface and that goes there thanks to hydrothermal activity icy globe.
last flyby of Enceladus Cassini will perform on 19 December. Will approach then the distance 4,999 km.
