Horizontal darker streaks is probably liquid water
According to experts of NASA, the discovery is breakthrough. Using the data collected by the Mars orbiter, scientists came to the conclusion that the Red Planet is water in a liquid state. During the press conference the researchers emphasized that water is essential to “the existence of life as we know it.”
As previously they suspected Mars may be liquid water. – Now we have the clear evidence – said the scientific director of NASA’s Jim Green. – In the photos you can see dark streaks that formed in the late spring, summer grow and disappear in autumn – he added.
The study, using spectrometers located on the Martian orbiter, scientists know that the composition streaks visible in the photos are “hydrated minerals” – states the NASA .
– Thanks to research, we know that three billion years ago, Mars looked very different – said Green. – He was the atmosphere and on the surface of a large ocean of liquid water. Mars suffered from massive climate change and therefore no longer see water flowing on the surface of the Red Planet. Today there was a revolution in its meaning – he added.
NASA also announced that it aims to make in the “near future” people set foot on Mars.
