18 thousand. dollars lying in bed – Focus

Who would not like to earn 18 thousand. dollars, not moving out of bed? This may sound fabulous, but it turns out that lying can be quite a challenge.

Last year, NASA adopted the 50 people who have come forward to participate in just such a project. Participants have to spend in a horizontal position the entire 70 days, and they could not move a step, even to the toilet. Everything, of course, for the sake of science. The purpose of the American Space Agency and CTF-70 project was to study how the human body behaves in space. The results will be used especially when planning long-term space missions, including – a trip to Mars.

One of the participants Iwanicki Drew talked about his experiences in an interview with NextShark service. Iwanicki admitted that he first heard about the project of NASA in 2013. He decided to apply a little bit of boredom and at the end of 2014. was chosen from among 25 thousand. candidates.

In an interview Iwanicki said that his condition was monitored around the clock. During this time he was on a strict diet that would keep his weight at a constant level of 90 kg. The man was not allowed to move or turn his head to make eye contact with him visiting partner. All physiological functions, including excretion for 70 days he had to take lying down. The man experienced when lying severe headaches and spine.

– I’ve never been in the hospital, so lying in bed for so long I was really foreign. The hardest part was that I was not even able to sit. Physically it was really painful. The human body is not designed to stay still for such a long time – said Drew Iwanicki.

Strict restrictions also affected hours of sleep. The lights extinguished at. 22 and lit at 6 am. Naps during the day were excluded, which turned out to be for many people the hardest. At last all day lying in bed! The only exception was the ability to straighten elbows for 30 minutes while eating. The whole time the man had at his disposal a computer and books.

After the deduction of tax Iwanicki earned approx. 13 thousand. dollars. Was it worth it? Male stresses that despite all the negative feelings will never regret his participation in the project of NASA. “Previously always I thought that the grass on the other side is greener. This experience definitely helped me appreciate everything I have and my normal life” – summed up Drew Iwanicki.
