China: DNA scientists improve human embryos – Market Zrdowia

confirmed rumors that Chinese researchers first tried to modify genes in dozens of embryos obtained from local clinics infertility. The results of the experiment under the direction of Junjiu Huang, a geneticist at the Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, has published an online journal Protein & amp; Cell.

Expecting allegations of violation of ethical principles, Chinese researchers conducted an experiment to improperly fertilized oocytes, which penetrated two sperm. From these embryos never have borne children.

The Chinese tried to replace the gene responsible for anemia tarczowatokrwinkową – a congenital disease that is caused by reduced synthesis of beta-globin, one of the components oxygen carrying hemoglobin.

They used by the pioneering molecular technique, called CRISPR / Cas9, which has been hailed as the “MIT Technology Review,” the most breakthrough technology 2014 years. It is similar to editing text, so sometimes it is often referred to as “gene editing.”

With its help, you can find in the genetic code defined “sentence”, ie the DNA fragment, and then cut it to then insert the his place of something else.
