British scientists rule out a link between power lines and childhood leukemia. Extensive research conducted by experts from the University of Oxford.
Specialists have long doubted that the electric current in the overhead lines can cause cancer in people living nearby.
Now, researchers analyzed more than 16,000 cases of leukemia over almost half a century.
For comparison also studied a group of 20,000 healthy children living in similar distances from transmission lines. Increased risk existed in the 70s, but since the 80s no relationship was observed.
According to the researchers, these serious data clearly show that the overhead electricity lines does not cause leukemia. Previously, the cause could be air pollution during the construction of these lines.
Leukemia is one-third of all cancer cases diagnosed in children. British survey sponsored organization “Children with Cancer” (Children with Cancer UK )
