Comet C/2013 R1 (Lovejoy) is still visible through small binoculars – said dr. Arkadiusz Olech Astronomical Center Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. Comet C/2013 R1 (Lovejoy) was discovered on September 7, 2013 by the Australian lovers of astronomy. Information about it has been overshadowed by the hype caused by a comet ISON, announced on the comet of the century. – Now that we know that ISON was a bust, the comet Lovejoy was the pride of the turn of the year 2013 and 2014 – said Olech.C/2013 R1 (Lovejoy) has reached its maximum splendor in early December, when its brightness was 4.5 magnitude. In good conditions, you can see it with the naked eye. Currently, its brilliance is slowly declining, but still there are good conditions for its observation.

– The observations should go in the first decade of the month. In the first days of January can be seen on the border of the constellation Hercules and Ophiuchus. About an hour before sunrise comet lights at about 30 degrees above the southeastern horizon. Its brilliance is about 5.5-6.0 mag, so it is visible even through small binoculars – stressed astonom.

– From the observations so hurry, because now we have to deal with dark, bezksi??ycowymi night. Crescent Moon fell because 1 January and the first quarter we expect to 8 January. In addition, on the celestial sphere comet approaches the sun so the geometric conditions for its observation to deteriorate – he said.
