id=”intertext1″> all remember the robot from the movie Terminator , which could change shape freely. Researchers from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) implement this idea – created just M-Blocks .

M-Blocks admittedly not so small as to resemble a liquid, but these little cubes can be combined in any shape. Each cube is completely autonomous. There are no protruding parts. Navigating was terminated by the internal flywheel that allows the M-Blocks roll. It is visible in the lower picture. The connections between the segments are the magnet arrays.

M-Blocks are for now in the prototype stage. They can independently grouped and combined in simple shapes. In the future, researchers hope to further miniaturization of robots, equip them with sensors and camera systems. Hundreds or thousands of these cubes scattered in the room will be able to connect to any shape and form as required, such as a board chair or ladder. M-Blocks will be able to make temporary repairs to damaged buildings, splintered structures such as bridges or assist in rescue operations getting to hard to reach places and there forming the necessary elements to support human activities.

Possible uses are limited only by our imagination . That’s what we saw yesterday only in science fiction movies we watch today is becoming a reality.
