This has a negative effect on the heart, because the endothelial cells produce nitric oxide – a gas that expands the arteries and improves blood flow to the organs.

– There is no coronary heart disease without endothelial dysfunction, it has developed from the beginning. Therefore, improvement in function of the lining of the blood is an important goal of treatment of patients with this disease – says the researcher.

It is now known that the beneficial effects are visible here doing physical exercises as part of rehabilitation, she said. Her team checks for listening to your favorite music can have positive influence on the endothelium independent of exercise or in conjunction with them. For this purpose, a group of 74 tested patients with stable coronary heart disease. They were divided into three groups. Two of them went for three weeks on an aerobics class, the first (33 people) only practiced, and the second (31 people) and also practiced every day for half an hour listening to your favorite music. Finally, the third group were asked to listen to only the music.

At the beginning and end of the study, all tes ted exercise tolerance and the measured blood levels of some of the compounds indicative of vascular endothelial function. These were the final reaction products of nitric oxide (indicating the level of its production by the endothelium), an enzyme called xanthine oxidase and asymmetric and symmetric dimethylarginine. After three weeks, the levels of four indicators changed in favor of all groups (this was particularly nitrogen oxide and xanthine oxidase). The best, however, changes were noted in those who practiced every day and also listen to your favorite music. Simply listening to music also improved the results, although to a lesser extent than the physical training.

Interestingly, increased exercise tolerance for all people – about 39 percent. in the exercise group and listening to music every day, about 29 per cent. in the exercise group, and 19 per cent. in the group that only listened to music.

– Our research shows that listening to your favorite music – including regular exercise and independent of them – improves endothelial function and thereby contribute to the improvement of exercise tolerance . Therefore, it may be helpful method in rehabilitation of people with coronary heart disease – stressed prof. Deljanin. In her opinion, may be due to the fact that under the influence of music on the brain to secrete endorphins (happy hormones known as) that have a positive impact on the dish.

The researcher emphasized that there is no single good music for everyone. It is important to choose the one you like the most, which makes us happy, relaxes and induces positive emotions. The scientific literature shows, however, that it is best to listen to classical music, such as Mozart. It is also preferred not to enter into words, because these can affect our emotions.

– better not choose this for heavy metal music, because it can m ake us aggressive, which is detrimental to our blood vessels – said prof. Deljanin. She noted that the study was conducted in healthy subjects, but the team plans to do so in the future. – I suspect, however, that listening to music that relaxes us, it is good for the health of us all, just as physical exercise – she said. In her opinion, the music would also support the treatment of children.
